Information on swapping rear end?

So my 1982 F150 had a 3 speed C6, great transmission, but I located a NP435 4 speed cheap and decided to swap in hopes to get better highway. Little did I know the 4 speed was a granny gear 4 speed.. I'm able to start the truck from a dead stop in 3rd gear.. So now I've decided to swap the rear end but don't know where to start

My truck is a 1982 F150 short bed 2wd with a 300ci Inline 6 and a 1985 NP435 with a 4.10 rear end

What would be a good rear end ratio to use?

I want good fuel economy. I barely ever tow, but I'd like to maintain some of my towing ability, but with the inline 6 being so torquey I assume going to a different rear end will not completely hinder my towing ability. But my overall goal is to be in 4th doing highway speeds at a low rpm.. I was thinking a 3.25 rear end would do since I have the granny gear, maybe even a 2.75, what do you guys think? What rear ends are available for my f150 and would bolt right in?

Basically what are my options to accomplish my goal?

What size tire are you running? With the six and that granny first, you can pull a seriously tall ratio if major towing is not on the menu. BUT a big tall tire is a major factor, so tire size has to be figured into the mix.

I just have the stock 15" rims with regular truck tires, nothing fancy.

I found a guy that has the gears for a 3.00:1 rear end that goes to a Ford 9" rear end that he'll give me for free. My door sticker is missing but I'm pretty confident my rear end is a 9". If my rear end is a 9", how difficult would it be to swap the gears? Cause my rear end works fine and I just rebuilt the brakes, however I've never fooled with the internals of the rear end. The only used rear ends I can find is a 3.55:1, 3:75:1, and the 4.10:1

Or would a 3.55:1 put me in the rpm range I want?

9 inch is a drop out carrier. Check your axle and check if it looks like the one your buddy has. More later
