Just had a Viper alarm w/remote start installed. The installer had to use the spare key to put in a module for the remote start to work. The local Ford dealer wants $125 bucks for a new spare key (wow). Is this the only way that the remote start will work? Thanks
Depends really mostly on the model truck. There are 3 different types of bypasses. Theirs the old style pellet bypass, the data bypass, and key bypass. Depends on year and model of car/truck.
The easiest bypass is the one you explained. It uses an extra key to generate the signal and uses an antenna loop to broadcast the code. It requires no hacking of wires and is easily uninstalled. But as you mentioned, it can be very costly for a new key. LEt me know the model and I'll see if the car can be bypasses with a no-key transponder bypass.
If it's NOT superduty, ask your tech about part DEI 555F. It's a pellet bypass and requires careful positioning. Needs to be programmed, you must have 2 keys to program it. Somebody at ford thought it great to need 2 keys to program the system. If you have 2 keys, this module is like 30.00 and is installed similar to the antenna, you just have to position the pellet just right.
