Well yesterday I finally finished my 4x4 conversion on my 1980 F100. The setup is a 351w bolted to a C6 transmission with a Borg Warner transfer case spinning a factory limited slip 3.50 9 inch rear end with 31 spline axles. The front is out of an 85 bronco. Everything fell into place with ease after some scrubbing and thread cleaning. I used my stock F100 coil springs and leaf springs. I installed the blocks from the Bronco under the leafs. The truck sits unlevel with about a 1 inch rake to the rear. I plan to put a set of blocks in the rear that equal the Bronco blocks plus an inch to level her. The drive shaft had to have a different drive yoke to fit the C6 along with being shortened to 55 inches from u-joint to u-joint. While she was down I paid 50 bucks for a set of new chrome shorty headers made for a mustang and threw them on. I took the truck to an exhaust shop and they bent up some 2.5 inch tubes to flowmaster 40s without any clearance issues what so ever. The headers were clearly homemade but were strong, had a thick flange, and hey they were chrome. They truck runs and drives great and is so much fun in the mud! Dont mind the missmatched wheels. During the swap the front end became 5x5.5 and the rear stayed 5x4.5. I have a 2 of each bolt pattern coming from Cragar and can't wait to get them mounted up.
Very nice. I thought about some mustang shorty headers but am trying something else. Had you thought about swapping in a 5x5.5 so the pattern would match?
I was going to put the 5x5.5 axles from the Bronco in my rear but after installing them I found that the bearings were different and wouldn't allow them to turn in my trucks axle housing. I will just have to deal with a missmatched bolt pattern.
I was going to swap the whole rear axle housing from the Bronco but the right axle tube was cracked. I don't want to even think of how that happend but I was pretty upset after spending 3 hours to clean it.
Mudding is a ton of fun when you don't get stuck every 5 minutes but its a pain to clean it all off the frame afterwards!
you wouldn't happen to have some pics of the steering and spring set up would you? thinking about getting a dana 44 from a 70's f150 for my 4x4 swap if not id like a ttb 44 just looking to see how other people set theirs up

He used the proper frontend out of a 85 Bronco, which is a bolt in. Putting a 70's frontend under one of these trucks is not a bolt-in and will require some fabrication. His setup won't help you at all.
