Halo's are what your talking about. However look into a projector setup from the retrofit source in 05+ Harley headlamps if you want functional and clean looking.
Im looking at doing one of these kits myself, Iv taken apart a few head lights and painted them before so adding something like this would take a little mroe time and more pacience but i dont like all the "anzo and helo" light assymblies that are on the market. They are way to ricer car looking to me. These kits look beefy and more off road and with you building it you know its made solid and you learn some things while doing it.
If you search youtube and just some other images on google/bing im sure you will find people that have used these. The ballasts, bulbls and wiring are so far the best i have heard of in make. Some of the HID kits you get on ebay and other stuff are a lil cheap and I have had friends go through 2 or 3 ballasts due to them shorting out. I cant remember where but i found a step by step on how to build these. It worth at least researching it if your into doing things like this to your vehicles.
im going to order a kit for my Jeep pretty soon since i came across a cheap set of extra headligts for it.
Beware if you are looking at the 'Halo" lights that have a projector bulb. They say LED, but the only part that's LED is the halo. The actual headlight is projector, which most folks don't think have good light output.
LED headlights are the greatest, but spendy.
Glad you're doing your research!
I have halo hid headlights in my focus. For the truck I would take the advice above and retrofit good projectors into your housings. Look good and have a good light pattern. Only bad hid lights blind oncoming traffic and the eBay headlights are mostly bad. A lot of times they take projectors made for halogens and stick hid bulbs in them and that's no good. My halo rings are ccfl though and I like the cleaner glow compared to led halos. Really I don't like halos at all, but the previous owner did good with the projectors, so I use what it came with.
Check your local/state laws as well. In Texas/Florida it's illegal to have blue or red underbody/front light/wiper lights of any kind. People might think you're trying to pull them over. Just an FYI, I think ways that the state generate money... sorry, tickets should be avoided when possible
I posted this on another thread, but I'm saving up for a set of these. Cary from CT Performance will acquire the Harley Headlights and retrofit them with projectors. Here is his quote to me for a set with projectors.
Alex
"Base Price $595, would come with new housings, use morimoto mini bixenon projectors. Great output, and both high / low performance, Includes the larger 2.0 shrouds, 35w HIDs, labor.
Add $165 for '05-07
Harley option N/C (prepainted black bezel)
Shipping $35, 48 states.
Warranty - the Hid's are covered by a 3 year warranty.
Options:
50w $10
3k, 4300, 5k or 6k Kelvin
Ds2 projectors $50, last picture. Provides a even better light output."
I think Cary starts with OEM Parts, and I believe that a 3 year warranty on the HID is something to consider with price. Also, not having to bake the lights yourself and risk bungling it is my issue.
