Lead Additive or no?

Getting ready to drive my Grandfather's old '71 F100 soon and had a question. The 302 engine is original and has never been rebuilt, 89k documented miles since new. It runs great but, do I need to run a lead additive? Are there even better fuel additives for lubrication besides the lead additive sold at Wal-mart?

Thanks,
Mike

Leaded gasoline in street engines has been illegal since 1996. What they are selling you is something else. There is a ton of stuff on the internet on whether or not it works.
If the thing runs fine, leave it alone. These engines will run a long, long time on what is sold today.

What I was told years ago was unless you are hauling heavy loads daily or using your vehicle as a race car you don't need lead additives. I would be more worried about ethonal in gas.

Mike my 66 has to drink the cheapest gas on the corner, and does so with no problems. If you fill it up park it drivers side high or don't fill it without driving 5 gallons out.
