Now wasn't that easy? Just keep in mind that just because this engineering number shows it was originally engineered for a Galaxie, that doesn't mean it wasn't consequently used on a variety of other applications.

A mechanic recently told me the code on top of my 390 engine block tells the year: mine says C9, so as he says C stands for the sixties it would therefore be a 1969. He drives a '67. I can't give any veracity to this - just passing it on for somebody else to tear apart.

Not tearing apart. The casting codes describe the year the part was "designed" an "engineering number"
The "casting date" is when it was cast, a 5 digit # that will give month and day when decoded
What is the rest of the number on that part
