I do have this posted in two other forums, For I don't know exactly where to post, as I go down the list of forums. If that is wrong I do so appologize to all.
Our neighbor has a 1971, F-100, Sport Custom, with a 360 in it. Is this original or not?
I can't find any information on a 1971 with a 360 original motor everyone says it is a 351 or a 390. My neighbors are trying to sell the truck, for the reason that the father passed away.
So we are trying to find information about this truck to find a asking price. To help them put their affairs in order at this time of grief.
Can anyone help?
There is a very good chance it is a 360. In fact, I'm almost certain of it. I know a 390 is not original, and I dont think they came with 351's in that year.
302 or 360 and 390 were the available V8's in 71 look inside the drivers door there should be a metal tag pop riveted to the door with all the info about the truck and its options 71 was the first year the 390 was an option in f series light trucks then only for 2wd. 302s only have about a 9 inch wide intake 360/390 have a monster wide intake that goes under the valve cover.
390's were never available in F100's. The 360 and 390 look identical on the outside, so that's probably why people think 390's were available in F100's, they all magically become 390's when it's time to sell it. The 390 was reserved for F250's and F350's, as well as cars.
WOW! two great responces. From two great states.
My mom was born in Minn. and Dad was born in Iowa. COOL!
Anyway is there a correct forum to put a for sale into or where to find out how much it should be sold for?
This truck is emaculate, no rust, 128,000 miles, 1 owner, ALL ORIGINAL!!

Rusty, Not so friend, I disagree. Not sure of the first year but 390 could be optied in. 352 and later 360 were the standard issue FE V8s.

Sandy
Sandy, There is a classified section on this site, and all sale items must be listed there rather than in the tech forums.
Sandy, Just look at the VIN# on the truck or the Registration or the pink slip.. And the 4th digit in that line of numbers will tell you what engine the Truck originally came with..
G= 302ci
Y or 8= 360
H = 390
If I were a betting man (which I am not) lol.. I would say the 302 or 360ci..
Thanks to both Jowilker and RapidRuss for your replies.
The engine is a 360. Your advice helped locate where it would say.
Pink slip as well as pushplowers door jam place.
THANKS TO ALL!! Your most helpful.
We were given a wide asking price range from 2500-7500
I don't have the option of posting pictures(no camera)
So that's no help to anyone.
We haven't seen them today yet, but we're going to tell them it wouldn't hurt to have a detailer do the inside, just to make any part look even better( which can't get to much better as good as this looks)

Well personally Sandy, I think $7500 is way out of line ..Unless you found a collector that just had to have that particular truck in his/her collection..Because there is still just to many of them out there on the roads..Just my Honest Opinion...and I have been dealing with these old fords for over 30 years...
Yes I realize top dollar would be a collector.
Alot depends on location EX: CO truck sells for alot more in California.
It's top thing will be being in CO with not one ounce of rust.
Your truck looks great.
