Trying to avoid the 190$ price tag on LMC Firewall pad. I am thinking of building a simple one but I am not sure what I can make it out of. LMC makes there's out of ABS plastic, but I am hesitant about the stuff from the hardware store. Not sure if its the same quality. Just trying to think about this before I start even buy stuff. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you for you time.
Blower motor issues on our '77 Highboy led to a somewhat larger project. We too want to update the firewall insulation pad. The plastic ABS/insulation pad is available from a bunch of vendors for around the number you posted from LMC. I'm sure they're nice, but geeez...
Chad does a lot with firewall insulation pads across the hobby. Seems his vendor already makes the traditional black rubber/jute for 67-72 Fords and is in the process of releasing the same type of product for 73-79 Fords. The price on the 67-72 is about $70 plus shipping. He said the product could be available in a couple weeks. So, we're going to wait to re-install the heater box on the Highboy until we see what he comes up with. Let me know if you find out something else in the meantime!
