Also with my 07 E350......What is the black thing above the spare tire? It is wide and a bit round with something that looks almost like an oxygen sensor in the middle. I guess I better go on ebay or craigslist and get a manual.
Oh and the button on the dash that looks like the back of a car with tire marks after it? What is it? Something to do with traction or skidding? Do I ride with it on or off?
It looks like some kind of plastic gizmo about two feet across, round in places like a bat and in the middle is a wire attached to something that looks like an oxygen sensor. Is that what the winch looks like? It is over the tire.
That's not the winch for the spare. I can't imagine why it's so far from the fuel tank if it's related to vapor recovery but that's what I imagine it is.
The button turns OFF traction control. The OFF indicator will light when traction control is off.

Under normal conditions should the button be on or off?
The black thing is pretty far from the tank. The tank seems to be up towards the middle and this is by the spare and plus the van is extended.
Because the fuel system operates under "high pressure" vapors that arise from the fuel could be trapped in that system which in turn could potentially create an old condition once known as "vapor lock". While that is a bit different from current fuel systems it would be the same where vapor pressure inside the sealed system could block fuel flow to the injectors.
Stored vapors in the tank and fuel lines are vented into the throttle body when the ignition system is on, typically during start up. Most have heard a burping or gurgling sound and wondered what it is.
Because its part of the seal and "high pressure" fuel system it can create problems but its pretty much maintenance free in that not a lot we can do to extend its life other than check for damage plumbing lines into and out of it. DTC's will be triggered if the PCM seem something amiss though.
The fuel vapors in the tank are considered harmful to the environment, so the carmakers have to control it.
The EVAP system simply contains the gasoline vapors and feeds them into the engine intake so they'll be burned (instead of quietly evaporating to the atmosphere.
