Dually tire rotation

Hello everyone,

I'm a proud first time owner of an F350 2WD dually. The dealer put a nice new set of tires on it and in the interest of getting the most out of six tires instead of 4 I'm wonder what you might feel is the best rotation proceedure.

Front to inner, inner to outer, outer to front? Front to outer, outer to inner, inner to front? Or doesn't it really matter as long as the cycle is the same from rotation to rotation? Or something completely different?

Thanks for any thoughts.

I, too, am a first-time dually owner, as of about 2 months ago. I have seen discussions on here about how to do this task, but I have never yet had to do it on my truck. I remember reading about how it was pretty aggravating to do the front-back and the inner-outer thing on the rears because the wheels aren't the same and the rear inners aren't nice and shiny like the outers, therefore requiring that the tires be unmounted and remounted to keep the nice pretty wheels facing out where everyone can see them. A few people suggested doing the front left-right switch seperate from the rear left-right switch to keep from having to dismount and remount the tires. I'm sure a few folks will offer this as a suggestion to save time and money. As of right now, that's what I plan to do, until I see that it doesn't work or something. As long as the pressures are maintanied properly, I figure it will work OK for me.........

Mine has the crome looking hubcaps that cover the entire wheel on both the front and back. That would presumably take care of the clean & shiney problem. But when you say that the "wheels aren't the same" do you mean that the front and rear wheels aren't mechanically interchangable or were you just refering to the finish on them?

I get about 60,000 miles out of my dually tires, I rotate them at every oil change. I have steel wheels with simulators so I can do it differently than those with aluminum rims.

Staying on the same side of the truck, I take my front tire off and put the inside dual up there. The outside dual goes to the inside, and the old front becomes the outside dual. It works for me!

I have the factory aluminum wheels. My fronts and the rear outers aren't the same, although both are polished. Also, the rear inners aren't polished up like the rear outers are. If you have simulators, then all I have described isn't a problem for you.........

Yes - the only way to rotate tires on the aluminum rims is from side to side. Unless you want to have the tires dismounted, which sucks.

The proper way to rotate dually's is to take the two fronts and match them on either left side or right side . Soooo what this means is take the two fronts and put them both to the rear....same side, then put the two rears...from the same side back to the front. Then next time put the two fronts to the opposite side rear. This way the tires are always in matched sets. If you have aluminum wheels, and don't want to mount and dismount, then opposite sides will work also. It is not the preferred method, but at least you get some rotation.

My '03 manual recommends side to side swap only for duallys. Left front to right front, right front to left front. Rears go side to side in pairs.
