Mirrors are an "appurtenance" and not included in the truck width for highway regs.
The fact that your trailer is 16' long is why they work OK for you.

Add another 20-25 feet and you quickly see how you lose visibility at the end of the trailer.

My trailer is just shy of 41' and I still find the mirrors fine to see all the to the rear.

Perhaps the lower mirror could be adjusted to help?

That is the issue, most toy haulers are 101" wide, 5" wider the most other 5th wheels (excluding the wide body DRV's and custom units)

Imagine your trailer at 55' long. The longer the trailer the less you can see closer to you. Plus if I can do anything above and beyond to be safer I will. I've never felt like my mirrors would hit anything. I put around 90k per year.

No. Mirrors are exempt from max legal width. Except CA I think are limited to 20" over 102".

Props to user pjcinmi for sending me this in a PM last night.
Power Fold Fix for $5 - Ford Powerstroke Diesel Forum
It's the link I was trying to find on here but forgot that it wasn't even from this forum. Hah.
It doesn't tell you how to make them wider but it show a little about how to take them apart and I can take it from there.

I know that I had to fully extend mine to see behind the boat, buy I couldn't imagine the mirrors being any wider than they are fully extended. I would think if they were any wider you'd have more chances of smacking mirrors with another driver on the backroads. I smacked mirrors with a toyota about a week after I bought my truck. Knocked the bulbs clean out of the light, but didn't damage anything else. Other guy not so lucky though, his entire mirror landed in the bed of my truck. Served him right for driving drunk, and he's lucky he didn't get his a$$ beat.

I feel the same as Scott. My last trailer was a 101" 40' hauler. Never had any issue with my mirrors.

You really can't appreciate mirrors that are far enough out until you drive a vehicle with mirrors that match the length width of the truck or trailer

I'll go check, but can our mirrors be pushed a little further forward? Right now they are angled back just a bit I think. If you can push the housing an inch forward it will change the angle and by adjusting the mirror back to you it might give you wider sight line?
