Hi Guys,
I have an 93' Ford Ranger Standard Cab with the 2.3. EFI , 4 speed manual transmission, no Air Con, stock springs and Bilsteins on all four corners. My questions are these: I'm in the process of buying a boat and trailer that weigh just under 2000 lbs. Can I tow this thing with my little Ford with nothing more than a ball hitch on my step bumper??? I sure don't wanna tear up my truck and I'm concerned since this seems to go over the gross towing weight. Any and all opinions as well as facts are welcome!! Thanks in advance for all your help....
Jeff
Be careful with a ball mounted to the bumper. Regardless of what the stamp on the bumper says...these rear bumpers are total junk. I think Ford makes them from recycled soup cans. You would be much better off with an actual receiver hitch to use when towing your new boat.
I pull a bass boat with my ranger. I would not use the bumper for towing. If you had a flat surface that never had any ups downs or bumps it would be alright (perfect world). I don't think you could find this. Due to driving conditions, The stress put on the bumper at the hitch point could be greater than the tounge weight causing the bumper to bend down. For this I would go with a reciever hitch. You can find one for about $100 if you put it on yourself. A little more if you have it done.
