I recently bought a 2009 Navigator ultimate in great shape, but I have three problems I would appreciate some advice on.
1. The dual zone climate control doesn't seem to work properly on the passenger side. I dropped the glove box and found the blend door actuator had been unplugged, after I plugged it back in, it started making an annoying "clicking" noise. I have purchased a set of workshop manuals, and tried to reset the DATC to recalibrate the sensors/actuators, but was unable to do so, (procedure wouldn't work). Any ideas?
2. Both the front driver and passenger side heated seats don't work all the time, sometimes they will stay on for 30 minutes or so, other times they go off immediately with the LED lights on the buttons blinking a few times. Also annoying... Is this related to the seat climate control module?
3. The driver's rear side air suspension is about 1/2"-3/4" lower than the passenger side. I got under the truck and took the arm to the ride height sensor loose, it is free and operates smoothly. One odd thing, when I took the passenger side loose, the truck lowered itself, the driver's side didn't, when I restarted the truck, the passenger side came back up after the compressor came on. Is there a way to level the truck, or a self diagnostic to run?
I am very new to Navigators, and Ford's in general, and any help will be greatly appreciated.
As far as you dual zone climate control not working, and then clicking when you plugged it back in, sounds like you need to replace the actuator. Previous owner or shady dealer must have unplugged it to stop the clicking noise. When they click like that it is usually because the little plastic gears inside them have broken. Just had to replace one (drivers side) in my 2010 Expedition, and it only a 40.00 part. Luckily for you its the passage side and easy to get to.
Thanks for your reply, and the video was very helpful. I figured that someone had unplugged the actuator due to the clicking noise that started when I plugged it back in, but I wasn't sure why. I was wondering if the blend door might be the cause of the actuator failure, or if a blend door failure is very common?
As far as I know, it is the actuators that seem to fail. I don't think that the bend door causes it, I think it just the cheap plastic gears inside the actuators. On the older Expeditions (not sure of the years maybe early 2000) the blend doors seemed to break due to a bad design that was corrected.
I just found the time to get it ordered, found a new one for $18.92 on eBay, should be able to get it installed next weekend. Hopefully the clicking will go away...
Yes that blend door actuator was a poor design. I had to replace the one on my wife's 2009 twice (and one on my 2004 Expedition once). First time $300+ at dealer. second time, I did it myself. $30 for part from Ford and a very painful install. You will have to remove the glove box door and be somewhat of a contortionist. It can be done but the last bolt on the backside will cause scars. All that said....I will replace it myself again if it breaks again.
