Well, I had the standard pop under the front right side of my 99 f250 7.3, and sure enough my bushings for the sway bar where bad. I ordered the energy suspension kit, 4.5186G that everyone seems happy with, got it home, and now I have a problem. It seems that I don't have a stock sway bar and links under there. The sway bar itself is flat and doesn't have the bend in it that all the pictures online seem to have. The links eyes are much smaller than the bushings. In fact, when I pulled it all apart before ordering the parts, I thought that the bushings had been replaced by the previous owner since there was no need to press out the old ones. There were what I thought was a replacement plastic bushings installed. But now I think that the whole setup is from something else altogether.
So what do I do now? I could try the junkyard to see if they have a set up, I guess. Or I could go back to the parts store and just try to find some bushings that will fit. Or I could buy new links, but I'm not sure if they need to match the bar. Does anyone recognize what this bar comes out of?
Thanks for any help!
The lower insert is the new one from energy suspension. The small one is what I found in there.
What does the end link hole measure? Do your links measure 1.15 inches.
There are 2 different kits from ES, one has smaller bushing than the other and is usually for trucks built prior to 3/99
Ah, that seems to be the problem. I'm a bit of a novice, it seems. I thought from reading posts that I had a late 99, but the early 99 sway bar seems to be the one on my truck. Maybe it's a mish-mosh of various parts? The previous owner made changed things up here and there!
I may be completely wrong but think that when auto makers make changes they probably use up remaining parts as they go unless there is a safety issue. This can mean confusion for owners that have change over year models. Hows that go....... its a 49, '50, '51, '52, '53, '54, '55, '*56. G7 C '57*'58' 59' automobile. Lol

I believe that you are correct. I have an e99 and that seems to be the case.
I had a front end clunk on my e99 and ended up upgrading my links and mounting brackets to the newer style (yes the mounting brackets are different too). It was not a difficult upgrade to install and Ford has a shiny new design on those links complete with ball joints in them. They are a little pricey.

Do you have any more info on this? I have a clunk and squeak I'd love to get rid of.
I have a L99 and an early 99 sway bar.
The link posted above will have some good info for you. Post 14 in-particular.
I did end up with the energy kit and this winter I developed a knock from the sway bar bushings again. They seem enlarged from the sway bar? I just bought moog bushing replacements to replace that part this weekend but haven't gotten to the install yet.

Well...I had a lift kit removed and the butcher who performed that surgery modified the upper bracket. After that surgery I had a right side clunk when hitting rough spots in the road that was not there before. I had my auto mechanic check out everything on the front end...bolts, ball joints, nuts and bolts and he could see nothing wrong except for that modification to the bracket (he wouldn't take on the task of removing the lift kit). I looked around here and asked questions and those sway bar links seem to be a common source of clunk. I inadvertently ended up with the new, "pillow style" upper brackets and looked into new links. The e99 has shorter links and an upper bracket that sits below the frame while the pillow block mounts inside the frame and requires a longer link. So I got the new links, which have ball joints in them and due to the hardship I was having (like four trips to the stealership) the parts guy gave me a break on the price. The holes in the sway bar are the same and the new style mounting brackets use the same holes as the old style (even I get lucky now and then). When the smoke cleared the clunk was gone and I am now able to swap out those brackets in record time. I cannot explain why it clunked.
BTW the new links with ball joints in them eliminate those nylon bushings.
