I recentl bought a 2003 F350 turbo diesel automatic with 6" lift and 235 x 60 x 20s and 116,000 miles. This is my first diesel PU and I notice that when I accelerate from a dead stop there is a shudder in the truck. Is that normal? Do I have a drive train or tranny issue. Thanks,

 

It's your drive shaft. Need a double cardan shaft if it's a single piece shaft. Or a carrier bearing drop for a 2 piece shaft.

 

Agree. More than likely the lift has thrown off driveline angles so when you accelerate it shutters. If you have the ability you can check your driveline angles or take it to a driveline machine shop and have them check it.
Also check for a bad u-joint.

 

I had the same problem with mine. I researched it a bit and found that a 1/4" shim for every 1" of lift is the "rule of thumb". I added an 1-1/2" spacer to my support bearing and the problem was completely eliminated. Prior to that I was going through bearings twice a year because they would wear out prematurely.
