Ok, just purchased a 1999 F350 Crew cab xlt dually diesel 4x4 6 spd on monday. The dealer said that he thought the truck had already been programed becasue he said it ran more powerful then most other diesels. How do i find out if it has been programed or not? Also, upon close investigation, i see that the turbo is a garret turbo. Is this the stock turbo? Any thoughts or opinions would be great
yes the garrett is the stock turbo if the truck has a chip it will be plugged in the computer under the driver side dash, I do not know about the plug in programmers
thanks for the info about the turbo. I guess i need to do some more research on the programing. I could have sworn that on the 99 and newer trucks, you programed the computer, not install a chip. None the less, thanks for the info.
On my '00 PSD, I used a programmer that reconfigured the computer. I do think there are chips available also, but I am not sure. As for the dealership, if the computer has been reprogrammed, they should know if they ran a diagnotic on it before they sold it to you as I think it would either show up on there tool, or would be reprogrammed when they tested it (if they even tested it). You may want to ask if they did run the computer diagnotic test just to know for sure.
The dealer car run a diagnostic on it and tell wether or not it has a chip, or has been reprogramed. If it has and you like the power then DON"T let the dealer reflash the computer, you will lose all the performance programming. There are many chips available for every year computer controlled 7.3 & 6.0 diesels.
