Well my block is off to the machine shop. It will be bored .04 over when done (already .03) i have contemplated maybe going with flat top pistons to bump up compression a lil bit. Is it worth doing or just go standard? I have no serious intentions of hauling/or towing but be nice to have capability if needed. I did bump up to a RV cam. This is going into my 88 F250. Thanks guys.
Depending on the cam duration, a slight bump will be OK. These engines have poor quench area and are prone to detonation even under 9:1. Decking the block and getting the pistons further up would help quench and help with compression. If it were me and I was just wanting a torquey mostly stock BB, I would have the heads surfaced but not shaved and use a stock type piston. Especially if the cam you chose is a "torque cam" with under 215 dur @ 50 (and I assume it is if you are sticking with EFI)
When I asked my local machine shop pretty much the same question he said that it wasn't worth the extra money in his opinion. However we were also looking for a daily driver EFI with comp 34-255-5 cam.
