So today I was working on the pickup. I changed the thermostat today basic maintenance. I creeped up underneath the truck to put a clamp on the lower radiator hose, and I saw that my exhaust manifold had some seapage with black wet soot. I wiped it off smelled it...didn't smell like anything to me. Not sure what it is. Any ideas? I'm using the felpro gasket set. I also didn't use any red RTV on the manifolds.
WHERE on the manifolds was this? Maybe you don't have one of the runners tightened down all the way?
You have the EFI manifolds if I remember right, don't you?

Yes sir EFI manifolds. It was on the bottom side of the manifolds and the wet black soot I call it was on the block too coming from the manifolds maybe they backed off a bit. I should have took a photo.
Yeah that's what I figured too When I first saw it was real quick and then I looked at it with a flashlight this morning I was like crap it's oil! I'm guessing if it coming from the port it's oil seals?
Yeah, it looks like it's coming from higher up. Maybe just a bad valve cover gasket?
Funny you should say that because I bought one for that same reason because it is leaking on the driver side towards the back of the block. It will be cleaned up regardless next week I plan on changing the intake manifold and finally putting on the Holley 465! :-)
That should take care of it. Those valve covers can make a mess when they leak. Keep us posted.
What carb do you have on there now?
I'm really liking the 465 on mine.
The holley 600 on the dp!! When I put the C series I think I'm gonna run it with out the heat plate. Hopefully it works out good! I'm hoping I don't get any bogs!
