1994 F350 7.5 with an E4OD. I'm currently having some issues, at around 35 mph and 55 mph the transmission seems to hiccup.
Also, intermittently the drivetrain makes a groaning sound, sort of like "errrrrrr".
I'm guessing that the hiccupping is caused by the bands starting to slip in the transmission, and that the groaning sound is possibly the torque converter having issues. Any suggestions on what to possibly look for before I pull the tranny out?
I know what a misfire feels like. This was the transmission actually downshifting and then the shifting back into higher gear while the truck was in motion.
My truck did something similar as far as the random shifting. I was going to the beach over the weekend, and about an hour into the drive with warm/hot weather, the trans(E4OD) downshifted on it its on then right back into OD on the freeway doing normal speed. First time its done that. then about 20 mins later it started to act a little funny like hard shifts and random shifts, shut her off and ate and didn't come back. Also in stop and go it likes to bang into 2nd sometimes. Usually always when warmed up.
No codes, CEL of flashing OD light. Again it does the banging into 2nd usually when warmed up and after driving around for a while. Usually while running errands. Cold shifts like a brand new car.

Exactly Blaine! Only when warmed up. It didn't do it yesterday till I had driven an easy 35 miles
I'm at 107,000 but when I bought it at 92,000 it would do the same thing. Stop and go traffic is the worst. Slow driving from stops BANG into 2nd then stop and a smooth shift in 2nd then a hard one. I never under stand these things.
But this last weekend was the first time it's ever did the auto downshift at random and the "gear hunting" at slow speed. Had me really worried. Did a restart after lunch and then was normal.
So im not the only one with the banging into second gear issue it does it real bad when im on ice and i have to give it some gas to get off the ice i have the E4OD as well,i just have a little i-6 in my truck though.
That's a symptom of a failing MLPS. I recommend replacing it.
Just did it once and then it kinda gear hunted. Again only when engine has been on for a while and hot outside. Just did it that one time. Whole hour ride home at night was perfect shifts.
