alternator has been replaced two times allready and the second time they it was repl. Right after battery light came on started flickering and it will go off this morning car would not start battery is only three months old?!? Any ideas!!!

 

Have someone you trust with electrical systems go through the wiring and check for breaks. This could be a simple matter of a bad grounding point, with an intermittent connection.

That turned out to be the problem on a vehicle I repaired back in November. The starter wasn't engaging all the time... Replaced it... New one had the same problem. So we dug deeper and found a nearly broken ground. It only had 3 or 4 copper strands hanging on to make the connection to the grounding point. This made the starter bog out because there was no place for the surge of electricity to bleed out. The same thing can happen to alternators.

Now, if the wires and connections are good, then you may have just gotten a bad alternator. Some of them can be rebuilt, so check into that. Rebuilding is often cheaper than replacing. Check to see if it is under warranty, as you may be able to get it replaced for free.

Keep in mind: alternators are more sensitive than most people think. If you have any kind of fluid leaks dumping onto the alternator (or spraying on them,) even in "minor" amounts, then it may cause the brushes to wear faster; or even cause the copper to corrode. Fix any leaks that may be contributing to unusual wear.

Ultimately, my money is on grounding issue.

 

I have had terrible luck with alternators. I replaced mine twice with non-Ford parts and they only lasted a week. Then my Ford ones have only lasted two years each.

 

I would buy a new one, not a rebuilt.

 

I have a 2001 Ford Escape 6 CYL XLT and my battery light flickers and sometimes my oil light flickers as well. Any ideas what this could be? My truck only has 89,000 miles.
