I have a 2000 black excursion limited that has cracks all over the paint. the local paint shop has found five layers of paint on it from the factory. Has anyone else had this problem. Ford denies it.
take it to ford and start to argue- do not stop at the dealership - keep going up the ladder. it should not peel off, this has to do with paint not adhearing correctly to the primer. GM had this problem years ago and if you pushed hard enough you can get results. The exception in how may miles on the X? IF over 75,000 good luck
I did buy it used, it came with a ford 100,000 mile extended warranty. It had 37,500 miles on it. No it was never in a wreck or any body damage. chitownrepoman has the paint peeling. It sounds like a poor blow and go paint job for some type of damage or defect, however I have known vehicles to be re touched at the factory so this could be the case as well. I have a friend that repaints defective finishes on vehicles coming off the factory line. that is all they do, so I would investigate further.
I washed and dried my truck over the weekend and I was shocked when I looked at the driver door. It looks like little hair scratches, but it is underneath the clearcoat. Can't feel or see any impact of like stones, plus it is all over the place. Looks like somebody painted paint brush hairs in it... also discovered some on the rear door, which looks almost like it is cracking underneath the clearcoat as well...
I think I'll have to talk to the dealer and Ford Co... I'll let you know...
My black 03 has hairline scratches all over...
but those are MY fault...
and includes the LARGE scratch on the back doors that I did lifting something in the hatch :-(
am getting a bud from northtexaspowerstorkes.com that does "refinishing" for dealers to help with that this Friday...
Have seen his work and the b4 and after pics are amazing!
Will be doing the same for this process too...
and let you know...
2000 Black X with what appears to be the paint peeling off the the tops of the hinges for the rear glass and some cracks in the outer most roof indentation on both sides. Just noticed last night while washing. Will try to check further in the next couple of days.
