400 Build Progress

Finally got the block painted & some stuff bolted on!!! Going to paint all the accessory brackets red; going with a HEI distributor-the old one is just filling the hole. Also, in the last pic, notice the hole in the center of the head that the intake doesn't cover? WTF is it for & why does my weiand intake not appear to fit with it?

Blind hole, not sure why it's there, but no cause for concern. Great looking build!

Details?

Bored .030 over w/TMeyer pistons. Rest of the internals are stock; stock 4V heads; mild cam. Holley 670 street avenger on Weiand 8010 intake

I think you mean stock 2V heads?

The good news is since you have Tim's pistons, your compression is up where it should be and a new cam, even a mild one will get you over (potentially) 300HP. You are certainly not intake limited with the new (Chinese) Weiand, and the 670 Holley should be good enough for anything up to 400HP or so if properly jetted.

I really think if someone wanted to do a SERIOUS porting job on a set of M heads, you could use them on a 500HP build, but that's a lot of time with a die grinder when aluminum heads are available!

What cam did you go with?

If you can find a set of 2v 351C heads cheep. They have a better exhaust port to start with, no smog.

This is the cam I got - don't know much about cam selection, so I just told the machine shop I wanted a mild RV cam with the timing set straight up.

Well, from my understanding, that's about as much lift as you can use with factory valve springs - due to coil bind at higher lifts.

Should run very well!
