Im trying to find a site that might show what can be done
to costomize a aerostar van. i want to install caddy type
tail lights, remove door handles, and lower it about four inches
can anyone give me some tips that can be done to the front
that might spice up the looks, or am i silly to do all of this to a
van
Well, there are a few things you can do, but most of them are custom. There was a sport package (see my sig) that included a lower chin spoiler and running boards if you want a little different body look, so you can go junkyard surfing for that. You could get some grill material and make a mesh or billet type grill. As for caddy type lights... don't know of any, but who knows? Rims are a pretty standard size, but I don't think you can go much over 18" with the wheelwell size. If you are into bodywork, you could shave the handles and trim. I have also seen moonvisors and ventvisors for it on ebay.
I'm considering slapping a better exhaust on myself, and depending on the engine there are some performance mods (see ranger).
As for whether or not you are silly for it, ignore them. It's all about what you want your van to be. It'll never be a sports car, but you can definitely customize it.
since i've had this van (4 yrs or so) i've seen several cool aerostars. one was a police "dare" van painted red white and blue in slashing colors with chrome rims with the old moon hup caps. i also saw a metallic brown shortie last year with basket weave rims and slightly wider tires.the blue ford logo was in the middle of the rims. there have been several pics on this forum of modified aerostars, but none are too indepth. i would love to see more my self.. i think one was just last month. the guy had the hot wheels logo painted on an all "bright white " aerostar, it looked pretty cool too.
i've seen a few with the sport package, the ground affects look good! anyone with any info on upgrades would be great.has anyone put a sun roof in? or do those grooves in the roof rule that out?

91 aerostar xl, ext
183 thou. miles and going.........
Hey, why not? Keep us posted and it may inspire one of us, too.
Go to any search engine and key in the words "custom" and "Aerostar". You'll get a lot of Stereo customizations but keep digging and there may be something out there that'll inspire you.
I haven't customized mine...except for finding a console that looks better than the factory one for less than $50 from Walmart, ( I now have 6 cupholders, including the ones existing on the floor! )
Thanks guys , this is my very first time to be in the forums,
i wanted to find out if customizeing a van is being done at all,
im here in a small town in iowa, dont see a lot of custom stuff but i like em all, the 91 aerostar drive train is in great shape,
the lower part of the body was hit hard by termites, i dont seam to be able to find rocker panels, i have all the stuff i need to put in caddy taillights, an the parts i need to shave all the doors,
Termites? Dang... I thought they just ate houses - for aeros, your best place to find things is probably going to be junkyards. There are tons of them out there driving around too, so if you needed quite a few body parts, it may be worth your money to find a van with a dead engine to use. I see a lot of custom Astros around here, not too many Aeros.
There are a few companies that still make billet grilles for our Aerostars. Many companies sell them. A search engine search will get you many options/prices.
if you're interested in body kits for an Aerostar but can't find one, then make your own. You can use that hard pink foam that contractor and builders use. Take it and cut out whatever shape you want and when you're satisified with the fit , give it a generous coating of fibreglass. Sand it down, paint it up and mount it with doublesided tape or epoxy. I'm currently making new rocker panels and I'm thinking of putting on some ribs like those seen on a Pontiac Grand Am (I know, I said the "P" word...I'm sorry).
i have a 94 3 liter. heres my plan for it cuase it would be awsome. solid pearl white exterioer with the sport package ground effects. billit grill. 16'' spoke rims. wider in the back for that 70's custom van look. lowered as far as posible with airbag suspension cuase i want it to ride high so it dont bottom out. all white interior panels with black carpet and seats. 20 speaker sound sytem and neons underneath.stobe lights in all of my head and tail lights. and i want to suicide hinge the sliding door. thats what my plan is at least. now i just need to get the money saved up. maybe this will give you some insperation. and no your not silly for wanting to do this top a van. your an individual. and if anyone ever askes you why, ask them why not.
A lot of people has used Aerostars as their canvas... If you search around the net, you'll find an Aerostar with "Mystery Machine" painted on the side of it (Scooby Doo).
I know of one up the block with flames on the hood...pity they're silver and the van is burgundy - it might look pretty slick with orange/yellow flames and a black paint job.
i saw a 89 or 90 aerostar with a cone shaped air filter on the end of the air intake , where my air filter box is. anyone else done that? does it help mpgs?. it looked kinda cool.
i've always thought fog lights would look good on the front end, kinda a rugged look ehh? anybody added any?
as for the flames,..you could tell your wife they help decrease wind resistance, there by improving you mpgs...worth a shot....rick
