Look at http://www.specialtytopco.com/ . It's the same one as Skyler and has a .pdf file that tells how to install it. Maybe they sell the kit only there too?
It is similar but certainly not the same. From what I remember, there is an lot more hardware for this top than the skyler top. I wish the skyler top had a pdf for theirs....
Ready, I have a Skyler top and the instructions that came with it. The install is fairly simple, with the brackets bolting to the factory holes for the hardtop. The right/passenger-side brackets should have a red dot, but they really only fit one way. Let me know if you need further help. randy
Do you have a copy of the instructions? Could you email a scan to me? I need to make sure I have all the parts still. I was looking at pictures and see a strip of velcro on a tailgate....or am I wrong? There is a bar with it (I think), does this get used to pull it snug? Do you just twist it in front of the back seat?
Sorry, I don't have a scanner. As for the parts, there is a bracket along the roof, one down each side of the cab, and one along the bed rails for a total of 5. The top attaches with velcro all along these, with 2 snaps on top bracket and one on each side. You may have one solid strip of velcro for the tailgate, but I just used 5 12"-long strips. The metal bar goes thru the inside loops of the cover, under the cab window. There are 2 adjustable straps that mount to an interior panel trim screw and tighten down the bar. On some year models, like mine, you have to cut off the tab on the side trim panels that sticks out the back of the cab to get a flush fit. There's some more pics here:
I don't have the D rings, and I dont' recall them. Do you know where I could get something like that? Or what I coudl do for the straps? If I don't have the straps will it not be secure with the bar screwed into place? Thanks, Paul
You could wedge the bar inbetween the panels tight enough to hold without the straps, I think. They help by pulling the bar down and in to tighten up the cover, which helps the rain run off and not puddle in the middle of the softtop. I do think you could easily make some type of anchor that you could tie the straps to, like use a key ring and a metal tab. If you need help with the design, I might think of something over the weekend and get a pic to you, Randy
I did some more searching and found the straps, but since I don't have any illustrations, I don't know where they go. I saw a pair of screws on each side of the truck on the outer edge. Mounting them in this spot would place the straps almost to the side and down. My nephew also notice a pair of screws on the floor above the transmission, but I am not sure it would reach these screws. Ahhh, a picture is worth a thousand words. Can you describe where you mounted your straps? I am also curious what you did on the sides. I am going to get a few bolts with the 1.25 pitch, 8mm and about an inch long if I find 'em that short. The original screws/bolts have about an inch of no threads where they are in the fiberglass top, but this leaves a huge gap. I was thinking of getting a inch worth of washers for each side if I can't find any other bolts I can use. I thought the system used the original bolts so I don't know what they did about this very large gap. The instructions also talk about some wood piece but I am sure I don't know where this is. It says it is for rain runoff. Do you use that piece? Thanks, Paul
I'll try to get a picture or two in my gallery tomorrow (going to see Metallica this afternoon!). THe trim screw I mounted the strap to is near the bottom-rear of the door opening, right behind the seat. The wooden bow is used in the middle of the top, right behind where the rear seat back would be if flipped up, or about the middle of the bed. Mine came with some neat little anchors, too, that the board fit into to keep it from popping out. The board is about 2" longer than the width of the truck, and will bend upward when wedged inbetween the bedsides. If you don't have this, I'll get you the measurements that you can take to Lowe's or a lumber store and get a good oak board cut. ROck on, Randy
If you have email I'll email a spot I think....where they should go. I do not have this piece of wood. I don't recall getting one but that doesn't mean anything. I would be interested seeing what it looks like and where it goes so I can try to duplicate it. I would like to keep the soft top on for a long time. Until it gets down to about 45-50 outside, maybe next month here in MN.
Well,I installed it. Not as snug as I thought it would be, but I don't really want to install the velcro on the tailgate. That would make it nice snug. How do I put a picture online?
Create a gallery here at FTE! Then just upload your pics into that. I'll try to get some more of the top in my gallery later today, but I'm maxed out at 15 I think. Better yet, I'll put'em up on my supereford.org page. There's a link to that in my gallery as well. You can also create a pic gallery there for free for your Ford.
