Hey guys..
Well the rust has won the first battle.... time for it to die. Im preparing to cut out the fenderwells. Anything I should watch for when im cutting the front fenders? Cuz it looks like the inner fenders might be a rather annoying problem. Also what do you guys think i could squeeze into the wheel wells. With the cut fenders and a 2 in lift? I was thinkin 35 x 12.5...... but im wondering if i could fit some more rubber. Its an 85 bronco... f/s of course.
OK, I have always used a sawsall as a demolition saw and a sabre saw for something that required some precision. You must be a better tool pilot than I :-)
yeah sawzalls are great.. just gotta have enough expericance with them... otherwise they are only good for demolition. Anyway ya guys got any tips, or just sawzall stories?
A sawzall works fine. Use masking tape to mark your lines. Use a new or good metal cutting blade. Most importantly take your time. When you are done you may need to reinforce the outer fender. (usually the outer fender meets the inner fender for strength) You can use carpet stop(used for areas where carpet meets tile) to clean up the edges. I used this instead of cut out fender flares, because I do not like the way they stick out. Good luck.
my questions what are you going to do the plastic wheel wells I have a rust problem as well and I was going to use a sawsall but what about the plastic wheel well that will be hanging down ? any tips or pics of this job. why did'nt ford use metal ? at least I can weid that ....
Yeah i got no idea on those plastic wheel wells in the front..... the seem to start at the bottom of the inner fender. The rear are no problem at all. But the front will take some serious head scracting. ANyone whose dont this before have any ideas, comments?
I took the plastic inner fender out of the front(I have a 78 and the plastic just keeps mud from getting into the engine compartment.). I did not cut my front wheel wells, only the back. You may want to weld in some stronger metal to reinforce the lip of the cut area or some kind of strut to reinforce the metal. I had a Jeep Cherokee that I took the inner fender out of and the fender would just buckle if you just leaned against it, but that was also after hitting a deer at 70 MPH.
