I like how ambitious you are and how you go around finding parts and aren't afraid of the work involved. Keep up the good work! I'm enjoying following the progress.
Btw... This thread is titled "Repaint Thread"... What color are you planning to paint it? I assume paint will come after you're done scavenging for replacement parts. You painting it yourself or having that done professionally?
Thank for the compliments! Hunting for parts and deals is half the fun for me
It will either be painted bright dark metallic blue (color available on ford trucks in 1979) or black pearl metallic which is available on newer ford super dutys. Most likely going with black. Yes I plan to hoard as many of the parts possible in advance before I hit the booth. I'm having a friend who owns a paint shop do it but I'm taking auto body classes and I may be able to paint it myself if all goes correctly but the color black lays down like a mirror in a paint booth so we will see. I'm about to start pulling the engine and Trans and posting it for sale next week. I'm keeping the t case though. It will be getting a 12 valve cummins with a 5 speed very soon so stay tuned and I'll post a link to a separate thread on the cummins swap
Just a FYI. The body work under black had to be PERFECT or it is plainly obvious that work was done. For your 1st paint job I would pick a more forgiving color

Im aware of this but thanks for the heads up. That's why I most likely will have a shop do it. That's also why I'm only being perfect body panels. All the parts I've gotten so far except one fender that's only a temporary anyway are perfectly straight so no body work will be needed. The only thing that will need by work is a ding on the roof and a dent in the cab corner. Everything else going on it will be perfect so there's no body work on it and nearly zero bondo. This is why spend so much time hunting for clean parts.
Can't wait to see that fresh paint! I'm thinking of doing my own paint as well. Can anybody tell me what the most forgiving color would be? (besides primer grey....)
Just so you know. The likelihood of finding panels that just need a scuff and shoot is pretty muck non existent. 20+ year old truck will have scratches and minor blemishes. Hell, even brand new trucks had body work done before their factory paint job. Stone chips, scratches, etc all need to be sanded out. Also the texas heat seems to bake paint to the point of making it crumble
A bit overdue update. The engine will still come out but I'm going to get it running. Took a look at it last night and I'm not sure but I think I have a crack in my distributor cap but it was getting dark so I couldn't tell if it was just a line of Dirt or not. Will know today.
I managed to get the passenger door off that brown F150 for $100 but they were closing so I wasn't able to buy the other. Will be going back today to buy the other and possibly the whole tan interior out of that truck and a crew cab that's out there as well. Btw that is mud on the bottom, not rust. I was taking it off by myself and when it came off I had to set it down but it was very muddy
Update! Truck got put on hold due to my job and I just found out I'm moving to Oklahoma in the next week or so. On the upside the truck has been running good but the repainted is waiting because the old 460 and C-6 are now going in a 92 F-150 single cab short bed project I'm getting with a manual valve body which means a cummins donor for this F350 is arriving soon! I started looking at a Facebook page truck parts and found a near mint Dually bed close to my new house with no fender cracks for $300! Already made the deal so once I move there I'm going to pick it up. I also get a 29x19 shop all to myself and I've been working in my back yard so this is a huge upgrade for me! I'm considering getting ab2 post lift for it.
Here's pics of the Dually bed
I found a set of 40/20/40 seats with a wood grain console in a junkyard cheap. Great score but before get them there is a few spiders to remove
They are getting re covered in leather and I'm getting them for practically nothing so even after they get redone it still a whole lot cheaper than the king ranch interiors that are over $2000 a set
Haven't updated lately. A few grand worth of my tools got stolen a couple of weeks ago and last Friday I tore my MCL. I did pick up my dually bed yesterday and it's getting swapped over the weekend
