Hard Drive free space incorrect

Hi,

I've just come across an odd little issue. My Hard Drive is reporting about 200 GB less free space than I really have.

I can see 'hidden files', and the like, and I know that it's wrong
- selecting all files shows the correct used space
-System image makes a file of the right size
- Properties on C: says 200 extra GB -- tools say no fragmentation issues.

Just worried that it will refuse to accept stuff in the future because it's 'full'

I suppose that I could try a restore from the system image, but I really don't want to go there.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

hj

Try running a disk check...it could be the disc index is misreporting what's used

To run a disc check..

Right click on c drive
Select properties
Select tools
Check both boxes then reboot the computer and let it run..

Note it will take a long time so you might want to let it run over night

also do a disc defrag.
fragmented files take up a lot of room.

Well crud -- ran the disk check overnight and it must have gone OK -- was at the bootup screen in the am

I have some sort of dell scan checker -- it reports the space as 'inaccessible'

All tools say that the HD is fine. No huge partitions and defrag did nothing.

Continues to lose space -- no viruses per avast and MS Malicious

Dell has a deal on a W7 Inspiron, so I just bought one -- then I can focus on replacing the HD in this one( I have a pretty fresh system image)

I'm also looking for MS Office -- what's the reason for choosing either key card or download ?You still have to download if you have the key card.

Thanks for all of the help

Probably a good idea to get a new one...

As far as office goes...
The computer will probably come with office pre installed which all you need is the product key card to activate it..

If it doesn't come preinstalled then you will need the download..
