Greetings from NW LA
I've got an '84 E250 that I bought new - yeah, original owner here. At the time I had to special order it because no one had what I wanted in stock; I had to wait almost four months. I found the original order form (I'm kinda OCD about keeping documentation)...
"E251 Super Cargo Van, 3505mm/138/wheelbase, Raven Black, Charcoal vinyl bucket seats, Engine 5.8L/351/8 cyl 4V, Glass - fixed rear door, Glass - fixed RH cargo door, bucket seat- passenger, Transmission - Automatic, rear axle - limited slip, 4 8.75x16.5 E 10PR BSW, trailer towing - heavy duty, air conditioner - dash mounted, glass tinted, door latch & lock - rear door - sliding side cargo, fuel tank auxiliary w/std tank, springs - heavy duty frt/rear, stabilizer bar - front, Convenience Group, exterior sound package, Total Vehicle and Options, Destination and Delivery, Total for Vehicle = $13,820.54"
I accepted delivery on March 19, 1984, so I've had it for 31 years... and it only has 39,488 miles on it (I just went into the garage and checked). The only mods have been a dealer installed step bumper (at delivery), a Kenwood/Bose sound system, heavier tint on the rear doors/side cargo door glass, custom wheels (American Racing), tires (9.50R16.5LT/frt & 33x12.5R16.5LT/rear). I set it up to haul motorcycles (race & show bikes) with a removable custom tie-down rack.
I don't use it much anymore, beyond driving it down the state inspection station for its annual inspection & windshield sticker. It's tough as nails and still runs fine. These were very robust vehicles in their day - most were drafted into the traditional trades as workhorses. I've grown curious of late as to how many of these Super Cargo Vans Ford produced back then - and just how many may have survived?
I know one thing - the force is strong in this one...

I bet that van could use dual ac units to keep it cool down there in the summertime. I've spent a lot of time in LA, and that's where I learned to say "It's not hot 'till your jeans are soggy" while working on the pipeline. Mostly in Opelousas and some town NE of Baton Rouge. Love that Slap Ya Mama seasoning!
In the worst of the mugginess I hung a clear shower curtain from a rod at the roof-line (just past the backs of the front seats) to trap the cooled air - it worked okay... barely...
FWIW... I have no idea how that graphic got into my original post above - I didn't do it... WTF? Now it's gone..?
I keep getting a warning that some script on this page is malfunctioning/needs debugging, and periodically everything slows way down... It might be on my end - 'beats me.
