It's been so long that I don't remember about grease fittings, but I do believe the replaced ones do have grease fittings. I lube all fittings when I change my oil.

I've had some of the ball joints replaced previously, forget which ones, but I want to say uppers and lowers were done.

How do you check the ball joints? It's a little frustrating because my mechanic checked out the front end when he replaced the stabilizer and said everything looked fine.

Had the same problem on my truck. I replaced the ball joints and that did not fix the problem. Turns out one of my dual steering stabilizers was bent and was sticking when straightening out from a right hand turn.

Just put it up on a jack and check for lateral play in the wheel.

Getting a little frustrating here. I took my truck to another mechanic as I'm still having problems with the steering wheel not returning on it's own. The problem is still intermittent and the mechanic did not notice this with his test drive. He did mention that I needed to replace all four ball joints though.

I went through my receipts as I remember getting the ball joints done once before. Back in January of 2010 all four ball joints were replaced with Moog parts. The station that did the work is no longer in business, but the receipt says "Moog - lifetime warranty on parts".

I'm still surprised that the other mechanic didn't notice anything wrong with the ball joints and this mechanic did. I'm not a mechanic and don't know how or feel I have the ability to check them on my own. But the bigger question now is with Moog and how to follow up on their warranty. Their site is lame and I'm going to try to call them on Monday.

In the meantime, does anyone have experience with Moog and their warranty? I did some internet searching and hear mixed things. Some say the parts are made in the USA, some say china, some say they do offer a lifetime warranty, some say they don't. Any experiences would be helpful.

That is very weird that he is saying it could be the ball joints now. I had my ball joints replaced when my steering was doing that and it fixed it. It's just very weird that the ball joints are coming up now. I would expect the mechanics to rule out the ball joints first.

Different mechanic. The mechanic that did my tires, shocks, and stabilizer changed out the stabilizer thinking that was causing the problem. When I went back after the stabilizer change he said the front end looked good.

I went to a different mechanic yesterday and he mentioned that the ball joints wouldn't have an effect on the steering. He test drove, but did not feel the resistance as it only happens intermittently. He said the ball joints needed to be replaced.

I need to find out from Moog about the lifetime warranty from the last time all four ball joints were changed (5 years ago). Shop that did the work is out of business, but they wrote on the receipt that the parts have a lifetime warranty.

This truck has me confused.

A new mechanic checked out the front end and mentioned that the ball joints needed to be replaced, that's all they said.

I just replaced the drag link and tie rod ends also and the bushings for the radius arms and I beams look like they are going bad as well. I use my truck heavily though and have replaced the front springs with a thousand pounds more rating so that probably puts a lot more stress on all the parts. If you have never greased the ball joints it would not surprise me that they are bad after five years.

I'm not a mechanic, but I do change my own oil. I also lube all grease fittings during each oil change (every 3000 miles).

Check the U-Joints. Find an area to engage 4wd. You will notice a ton of steering resistance. Then you get the task of pulling the axle shafts and having the u-joints replaced.

I'm bringing this back to the top as the problem still exists and I'm trying to work things out. Moog has replaced the four ball joints, waiting for two more to come in the mail, then I'll figure out where to get them changed out.

In the meantime, the last mechanic did not feel my steering resistance issue and said the ball joints have nothing to do with that. The mechanic that did my tires, shocks, and stabilizer saw nothing wrong with my ball joints, but thought the stabilizer was the issue for the sticky steering. He replaced the stabilizer, but the problem still exists.

I'm hesitant to go back to either of them.

So here is my question for today; the first mechanic put the boot on the stabilizer, but I'm noticing that it's pulling off from the right side. What I'm noticing is a lot of oil or grease, black something built up all over the boot and the stabilizer. Is it possible the second stabilizer could be defective?

The sticky steering has been intermittent, but a few times I had to force the wheel straight, but even then it was really tight and hard to move. It comes and goes.
