Just got a new Sony CDX-MP40 MP3 player for my B Day. Very happy. I have to install it but should not be to hard. 2 Questions
I have the mounting plater thing for a 2002 Explorer. The guy who sold it said it would work and I am pretty sure just want a 2nd opinion from you guys. Taking advice from some I have seen on the board I got one with the small pocket in the bottom.
2nd my new player has RCA preouts on the back for Audio out front and Audio out back. I want to install an amp for a sub and want to know which set to use. Ideas guys and thanks in advance.
Use the rear preamp outs for your sub amp. Are you going to be amping the front pair also? if so use the front preamp out for that.
Hope you enjoy your new system.
Your going to love that Sony CDX-40 mp3. I know a lot of the guy's here don't speak to well of the new Sony line up, but I have no complaints with my CDX-40 I just love it. I can't help you with the install, mine was installed at a shop.
The mounting kit should work. They will usually say on the wrapper what Ford models they work with. Since they are so cheap, the salesman would have no reason to lie. BTW, it doesn't matter if you have the small pocket at the top or bottom.
Also, if the rear preamp output is a non-fading output, make sure "non-fading sub out" is selected in the Sony's menu system. Otherwise, you will affect the subs volume when adjusting the fader. It should be outlined in your owners manual, but I thought I'd remind you since this is quite often overlooked.
Thanks for all the advice guys. Installed it today and looks good and sounds great. I did get the wrong install kit to begin with but now have the right one and i fit perfectly. Thanks for the ideas on the amp install. For know I have the monster cable coming out the back of the head unit and coiled under the dash. I will install the sub a little later.
Hey nutter, how long ago did you buy your CD-MP40? I sa surfing the sony xplod website and it turns out if you bought it between May 1st and August 31st you can get a free street glow neon tube. Not that I would buy one normally but hey free is free.

I got this one in March my first one was ripped off!
No need for neon, the faceplate light is neonish enough for me, infact that would be my one peeve about this system.
My buddy put 2 blue neon tubes way under his front seats in his chebby brasier, they make the floor look pretty good, they don't pulse, that would be a little to funky in my eyes. I might do the same with red to match my interior,
