Gem modules can be very hard to find. Some are one year only kind of things and further break down into submodels. I would make 100000% sure that is your problem and if so that yours hasn't gotten wet or even a new one will die after a few rain storms/car washes. A dealership should have been able to tell you that when they had it, but sounds like they were playing "guesstronics" with your money. I did find one place on eBay that claimed they could program a gem to my specific truck, but it wasn't cheap and its been years since I looked for one.
Took back to dealer. $103 later, they say it must be GEM but no way to test it. Any suggestions where to find one? They want almost $800 for one programmed? Local scrap yards don't have any. Thanks

Have you pulled out your GEM and cleaned the terminals yet? I would try that just for fun. I'm pretty sure unless you buy one from the same year and optioned vehicle that you will have to have it programmed. They just aren't cheap. Actually 800 bucks is less than I expected from ford.... A used manual transfer case from a superduty along with the manual lever ( hole is already in your floor) might be cheaper....or even fabbing linkage to your tcase.
Yea I had it out to get part number, everything was nice and clean.

Exactly what I have found, problem is dealer qouted me $700 plus a hour to program the new GEM and that there was only 1 left available in the country.
