Boost Gauge

I want to install a boost gauge in my 97 F350 with 7.3 PSD. Where is the best place on the engine or turbo to attach the line in? I have installed a DP Tuner computer chip if that would make any sort of difference. Can I plumb the line directly into the turbo somewhere? I have not looked at gauges yet, so I would like for some of ya'll to recommend one. Thanks all.

I had mine in a Tee in the MAP line and the needle fluttered, so I moved it closer to the turbo and tapped a hole into the spider. No more flutter now.

Mine when I was non intercooled was tapped into the black y pipe coming off the turbo into the manifold, now that I'm intercooled it's in the same location on the turbo outlet pipe to the cooler

The stock y-pipe is thick enough to thread a fitting into it?
Do either of you have a picture of the location?

Oh, you know I do! No issues here. The fitting that came with my kit is 1/8" NPT.

The issue is that if your boost gauge needle pulsates, it is likely because of the unequal pulses in the pressure due to the intake pulses on the passenger side plenum where the MAP line goes in. If you put the line closer to the turbo you have the intake pulses of all 8 holes so it evens them out more. Being closer to the turbo I think the airflow is smoother as well.

If you tee it into the MAP line and the needle doesn't flutter, then I see no issue with it being there. Mine fluttered so I moved it.

I welded a small bung into the spider to thread the fitting into.

Yeah it is! It's purdy fo sho!

I was worried that the spider wouldn't be thick enough to tap well, but it threaded in tight and hasn't leaked yet. It's done its job well enough. Now I have an E99 spider to install with my IC pipes. I just need to get the valley gutted, and get the E99 spider in there.

Thanks for all the help. Does anybody have a picture showing the map line? I'm not sure I know just what that is. Also, I pull a 12,000lb 5th wheel with my truck and was wondering how much boost I should see. I have done a frame off restro on my 68 GTO, but I'm kinda new to diesels, Thanks

If you look at the picture I posted above the MAP line is the small line that crosses close to the oil filler cap and goes to the MAP sensor on the firewall that has the 3 wire connector on it. It sits straight back from the oil cap. The other end of the line goes down and ties into the passenger side intake plenum on the head.

Pulling that kind of weight, and with an all stock motor and no boost leaks you should see somewhere around 20 PSI of boost. Add a chip and that will increase slightly, but if you're seeing around that with an all stock setup, you're doing pretty well.
