My digital odometer is funky! Sometimes time it works sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it works on start up than after a lil while it fades out. Any thought suggestions?
When you are pulling apart the dash (takes about 10 minutes) make sure you get the top piece off too (I've successfully taken the cluster out by wiggling in tight spaces but it makes it very very stressful).
You start by pulling the headlight switch off and unplugging and pulling all the plastic pieces which just pop in/out (you won't break any tabs). There are a good 12 to 15 eight-mm bolts and a couple are hard to find. Don't worry if you lose any - half of them are uneccesary - they went way overkill on the bolts.
When you get cluster out it just takes 1 tiny drop of solder on the pin furthest away (as pictured in link above) but you might want to put a drop on the other end piece. Will work perfect after you reinstall.
If you do this yourself get a repair manual note warnings and cautions
There is an airbag that needs to be disabled before performing this procedure
If you take it to a shop,at least now you know what's involved with the repair
Takes 15 minutes tops and it doesn't require disconnecting the battery or disabling the airbag. You can even drive with the dash all ripped apart as long as the cluster is connected.
