First of all, hello, brand new member and first time truck owner here, so bear with me as I'm not gonna know as much as you all will.
Secondly, Help! I just bought a 71 F-100 this past Tuesday to use as a daily driver. I parked it after work yesterday, came back to it about three hours later, and all the electricity is gone. lights don't work, wipers don't work, horn doesn't work, even the brake warning light that comes on when you turn the key is out.
I have checked the battery and it is good, but I am totally stuck as of what to do next. I have a voltmeter and tools so I can fix it; is this a common issue or am I totally screwed?
The battery and starter solenoid cables should be checked at both ends for clean, bright and shiny tight connections. Grind down to bare metal and tighten securely. It's good practice to replace cables after several years as well.
Welcome aboard, pal. Sorry about the circumstances.
1) Remove, clean and re-tighten both terminal connections to the battery.
2) Clean up all connections at the solenoid.
3) Remove and clean (-) battery cable (black) to engine block connection. Clean block with sandpaper, refasten and tighten.
Obviously, check heavy cables for rot and corrosion. Or better yet, replace them.
This should get you going. If not, come back in.
