My orignal ford horn just isnt cutting it, it sounds weak compared to my Mercury which has dual horns. This truck only has single horns and I dont see where theres any extra wires for extra horns.
But I am curious what would be my options for a real truck sounding horn?
I looked at some air horns but I dont want to set up a air system and possibly fail the inspection for a too loud/obnoxious horn as my regular service horn.
So right now I am looking for ideas on what I could run that is plug in play but still has a truck sound to it.
I have been looking on ebay and I keep seeing these red bull horns real cheap but they just dont cut it sound wise for me from the youtube videos I seen of them.
I have a pair of Fiaam/Wolo horns on my truck.
They have a screw on the side where you can adjust the pitch.
Best to set them so there is a harmonic that makes them sound much louder than their sound alone.
2+2=7 or something like that...
I did have to run a relay, but that was easy and only about $5 for the relay and plug/holder.
I looked at thoses, I even thought of tracking down another 1982 ford horn and doing a daisy chain wire from one horn to the second horn just to get some more volume out of it. But to me a truck shouldnt have a high pitch sounding horn. My mercury uses a high and a low note C but it sounds more musical than what I think a truck horn should sound like.
I will give a look at thoses, are those the round pancake ones that are red and black? if so I kept looking at thoses as a replacement option.
Mine is fairly loud, stock horn. But it's nothing compared to the dual horns that are on our '64 Galaxie. I'm not even sure both of them work. But the tone is much deeper and louder. Wish I had those on my truck.
There was a dual horn option on these trucks. But when it was added you also got a relay to power them. The wire running to the first horn ran on to the second horn that was mounted behind the bumper. And they were a hi/Lo pair.

Really? thats why the 1980 F150 at work with the 351M that we installed rebuilt 2 years ago and finished up today has another horn mounted behind the bumper on the cross member.
I looked on mine but didnt see anything. I need to check my catalog and see if theres a wiring harness for it that doesnt require cutting or splicing.
I bought the hi horn and lo horn from oreilly. They have a good sound and not obnoxious. Harbor freight also has a compact wolo air horn. It is fully contained and super loud. I and all my friends installed them on the underside of our motorcycles.
No, they're not the pancake style.
They have a horn (scroll) cover on one side.
It doesn't sound like a sports car if you are willing to take the time to tune them.
You can get maybe a baritone out of them, but not a bass.
I'm sure the pitch can be found somewhere on the 'net
Thanks I will look into that.

I have seen the bad boy style of horns before, I need to look those up on youtube and see if they produce the kind of sound I am wanting.
I also need to check the horn maybe it is just quiet to me but outside the truck its louder. I need to figure out if there is a harness that plug and play for a factory dual horn setup, I dont mind taking my time to track down the part number on ebay. Im still trying to find a few part numbers that just dont show up.
