just wondering

Howdy all I have a 99 7.3 all stock I bought a super chip programmer for it and now when I get on it pretty hard it starts out fine then chatters loadly then quits just wondering if anyone has a idea what that mite be thanks

Mine had a superchips tune loaded on it back in the day. Horrible shift programming. It would shift so hard under load or hard acceleration I was always amazed nothing was broken.......until something was broken.

I bet yours is doing something similar, maybe jacking the line pressure way up and locking the torque converter early......factor in your tranny may be worn and/or the torque converter has some slop in it and bingo, there is your chatter.

Just my opinion and experience though, I am by no means a tranny or tuneing guru and would rather defer to those more knowledgeable than myself.

Generally an off the shelf tuner works just fine for an off the shelf (bone stock) truck. When i was using a SuperChips programmer i did notice excessive slippage during shifts at first. After a day or two everything started smoothing out and working normal. I don't know the ins and outs of the transmission and transmission tuning but i do know that the truck will make some adjustments to how the transmission shifts.

I only ran the SuperChips for about a year on my 7.3 before I went with a custom chip that was set up for the mods I had made. I will add this though. These off the shelf programmers are very generic. My SuperChips programmer was originally bought and used for my F-150 with a 5.4. It was also compatible with the 4.6 and 6.8 gas motors as well as the 6.0 diesel from the years of 96-2008.

I have a Superchip in mine for the transmission. It eliminated gear "fishing".

How about instead of bashing a product in regard to how it operates (since NONE OF YOU have any idea what the tuning is doing or how the device even works), start with why the vehicle makes noise and stalls.

How is the restart after stalling?
How is your oil level?
P1211 present (or even P1280)?
Fuel pressure?

How am I bashing the product? I like having it eliminate "fishing".

I really don't have a problem with the shifting it does that just fine mine is more like the values start chattering loadly then stop ... Not shure if I need more air or what

So if i'm understanding you correctly, you are getting a chatter under acceleration from a dead stop.

If this is what you are feeling. You might be getting spring wrap or the U-joints are in need of repair.

No not from a dead stop.. everything runs and goes fine like it's sopost to its like when I spoil my turbo up and it blows out black smoke the values start chattering really bad for about20 sec then smoths out

Sounds like you are describing diesel knock (valve clattering).

I've tryed all but not the low tow I don't like the heavy tow it doesn't do it on heavy tow but that is almost like stock lol it sucks need to try low tow and see if it does it on that one .. is there some way of adjusting the injection pump to made it stop
