Here's one done differently

Well said Sportster Mark! The age old Ford vs Chevy will never die, but I don't know why folks have to get their panties in a wad over someone thinking out of the box. My 53 is Mercedes diesel powered and there are parts from several manufacturers used to make it complete.
If this truck is done well and safely its owner could enjoy many carefree miles in it. I know I have enjoyed every one of the 85K miles I have put on mine.
Come on folks, build your trucks like you want to and get out there a drive them!

To each their own... I'm not a big Brand freek! I like the styling of the older Fords and newer Chevys... I've owned many different brands (Ford, Chevy, Porsche, Mercedes, Studebacker, Nissan (and Datsun) and both Honda and Harley motorcycles. and if your doing the engine work your self put in what you feel comfortable with. I put a BB Olds in my first F1 in the 80's. I bought this one with a SBC in it...

These trucks are a labor of love and each man gets to be his own boss. Everyone has their own option of color, style, and opinion on what he should do. The truth is that the hobbyist that wants to build one may not have $20000 or time to make it as he would like but he is still grinding rust until his face is covered and putting in hours trying to save tin from the scrap pile. I applaud any man with the spirit and patience to bring it to life and take that first drive.
Bobby can you lead us off in a drink to that?

And can't wait to have ya come back. Bring the wife to
help us deal with the 70 girl scouts that took over your
camp ground. Now that was so weird.

To tell the truth, I've been expecting this for quite a while. You can pick up Asian engines pretty cheap, and if you look at what's out there in RWD cars, there are some interesting V8's with 6-sp automatics, 300+ HP. Modern cars get totaled out by insurance for accidents that don't even touch the running gear, so why not?

It's kinda funny.
No body thinks a thing, and even encourages, putting jag front syspension in a truck and whines like your beating them if someone puts a chev in something.
The Nissan engine is no different to me than putting a Toyota steering box on one. Do what you want to do to get your truck moving safely down the road.
I guess you can put the truck someplace up on stands and work on it for 10 years trying to keep it ford, or put in what ever you have and drive it.
Ross is totally correct on the totaled cars. I buy them all the time with anywhere from 20 miles to 10,000 miles on them wrecked.

There you go guys, putting logic into one of our conversations. Man that's annoying.
I don't get out to shows much, but I don't think I have ever seen a Y-Block in a truck live.
Really anything to get these beauties safely out on the road is good with me.
I loved my 83 Nissan/Datsun Sentra (It actually had both names on the back) The little 4 cylinder got 30 mpg until the day she died. It took very little maintenance. Late in life it maxed out at 65 if you had the air conditioning on though.
Now the Mercedes diesel in one of our trucks is just so cool. Not exactly sure why though.
Don't tell any of my stock brothers on here I said that though.

To make you feel better, I just ordered my 6V battery. (Optima Red Top) Now, when that arrives, I can safely start wiring my truck. If we start getting regular nice weather I will also be more inclined to go to the garage.
