Looking for a 4-5" lowering kit for my 52. Short and Smooth is a 3" drop. What else would I need to go lower? Do they make a "Down and Forward" kit like the 53 Kit from Mid 50?? I can't find a complete I need all kit in the Classic Hauler book???
IMHO you wont get 4" from springs alone. you will likely need to get a 3" drop axle and a combination of springs removed or perhaps the dual flex springs from posies. Make note that you will likely have steering issues with that much drop. many heat and bend the steering arm at the wheel to achieve enough clearance and to re-center the wheel / create a level drag link to eliminate bump steer. all that is if you want to keep the original I beam front axle. For the rear you will need to c notch the frame. The easiest would probably be an axle flip.
Am I better off with just the Drop axle in the front and leaving the springs or leave the stock axle and use the Short and Smooth spring kit? I think they are both 3". Thinking now more like just a 3" lowering of the truck. Don't want to create headaches or issues.
The 3" mark is tough. Posies claim up to 3" drop from stock original springs. Now most of our trucks have sagged a bit over time so the springs net more like 2". If it were me and you knew you needed king pin bushing replacement anyway I would send it to sids in Oklahoma and have it dropped 3". From there you can tune the hight with the springs you have and remove 1 or so if you want more than 3". I had posies dual glide on my old 52. The Height was just about right for me. posies dropped mine right at about 2.25".
You chose Posies over Classic Hauler Short and Smooth. Sid is 8 weeks behind. How about reverse eye springs? Not sure how they work? Would I need tie rod ext with the axle drop and spring or two out? Will I create any other major issues??
1)So now I'm thinking Sids or Classic Haulers 3" front drop axle, and remove a few stock springs.
Do I need any ext drag links or ext tie rod ends or anything like that?
2) for the rear I'm thinking about the Short and Smooth spring kit with the rear spring extenders and adjustable mounts? Will I have to c notch or need anything done there?
Please gimme some help and advice guys. I'm totally new to this style truck and lowering of any vehicle. Please reply keeping it Front- and Rear- to avoid confusion. Thanks guys
I've been searching thru magazines all day lol. Going to order Monday am so I can get my project rolling. Need some help and ideas. Any pics with details would be a big help too. Thanks
can you list or expand on what is included in this "kit" from sid? i thought all he did was just dropped axles. another great resource and i want to understand what he offers now.
Looks like I'm leaning toward a bigger drop than I first thought of. Going to go lower after talking to Sid. Going to do 3" drop axle from Sid Nostalgias and posies lowering springs in the front. Posies lowering springs in the rear with leafs removed or axle flop?? Still up in the air if I'm going too low or creating headaches....lol
I'm thinking it will look low and mean....
