Yes..I was replacing shocks all around. So in the photo you are referring the shock is completely out of the vehicle. But I think you are talking about the upper spring strap, and yes, that had to come out, I didn't even bother trying to wedge it through the coil spring, it's a 10mm bolt, just ensure you have the axle dropped far enough to relieve spring tension. Undo bolt and strap, then slowly lower axle end to allow spring to flop out. Hope that helped. I have more pics in my album titled airlift install.
Edit: after almost two hours of trying, I'm ready to frag my computer. I checked my album and the photo that detailed the upper spring strap removal is not in there. I have been trying to upload it but my computer is having some sort of fit and will not cooperate. I've tried uploading with my phone, but the site will not allow. WTF! I'll keep trying tho.

Thanks for posting pics; I am good to do most anything if I just have a couple pics, which this forum is VERY good about.
Edit: I just realized I asked this above. Sorry I just can't quite tell from the picture if the shock is disconnected.

Reason: my computer is being an *******
I read those and was looking for someone that had pics to compare. I may be going the opposite direction to try it.
Any 2wd spring from 99-04 will not raise ride height by more than 0.3". I've compared rates, free lengths etc... You might be able to run later model 4x4 coil springs and cut them down to the desired ride height.
Had anyone swapped gasser coils for diesel for a small lift or to level it out?
Gas and diesel is the same part.
I am really considering the front Airlift bags now. I had them on my F150 in the back and loved it and have thought about rears for the Ex. What difference does it make in handling to have them up front? Make it wander/drift less?

Thanks DavidM, I am going to give this a shot this afternoon and will report back. Where did you run the air lines? There's so much room under the hood since it's just a tiny v10, I think I'll find somewhere in there pretty easily.
Should I drill a spot for them and permanently mount or zip tie and leave it that way?

Air bags will not mitigate any wandering or loose steering qualities.... to remedy those issues you will have to address ball joints, steering linkages and alignment. Air bags DO stiffen up the "squishy", "bouncy" and "wallowy" ride up front that the Ex gets from it's soft coils. It gives the Ex a more stable feel when cornering and especially when towing heavy over dips in the roads. I think they are a small investment for a big improvement overall.
I installed the AirLift 1000 this weekend. It was not difficult after I realized I needed to unseat the top shock mounts. Why they would make the passenger side mount so hard to get to is a mystery to me.
SO, the air bags hold pressure parked but the passenger line has busted twice so far, deflating the bags. I made a fresh cut the first time and re-attached it but it just blew out again on my way to work this morning. Has anyone else had this issue? I will check for pinches but am thinking it's the strength of the line or the connection?

I've had mine installed for over a year now. Never had a line come loose or break. I have to check the pressure every other month and maybe add a few psi, but that has been all. Did you leave some "extra" line at the top of the coil so that there would be some slack for any movement?

Good luck!
I have all new steering links ans ball joints, I think I need to tighten up my steering box a bit. I plan to grab some bags though, how can you pass it up at $80 when I already have to replace some front stuff anyways.

Make sure yo u have plenty of flex in the line as the suspension moves a lot even just under normal driving. try making it very loose to ensure thats the issue then go from there to tighten it up or reroute it. How do you have it installed now?

I thought I had enough extra flex in there but that's probably the problem. I have both lines tied into the T-line and going to one valve on the driver side of the X. Should I just run one line for each bag? The line currently runs through the passenger side firewall in front of the radiator to the driver side front bumper (plastic not metal).
