On the lookout for a 4R100 4x4 trans. I need to rebuild the one in my Excursion, but since it's my daily driver I'd much rather rebuild a spare then just swap it in to avoid downtime.
If y'all could post up anything y'all come across I'd greatly appreciate it. Not looking to spend more than $5-600, and everything I've found so far (Hi Tech in Buda, LKQ, etc) is over $700 plus a core charge.
These new injectors are slowly killing the transmission. I've got some time, but not much. Then again, time will be based on whenever Roland has some free time for several hundred of my dollars and to lend a hand with the rebuild. Lol.
Don't rule out any 2WD transmissions either, if the price is right. We can swap out the output shaft to convert it 4x4. A used shaft can be had for ~$75. We can always install your tailhousing/transfer case adaptor to the trans before installation. This may help you expand your potential for finding a core.

Right on Roland, thanks bud. From what little I have read on converting a 2wd to 4wd it seemed more involved than that.
There's a 4R100 on CraigsList here from a 1999 E250 van for $400obo... it may be the only candidate I can use. Running out of time, the stock trans is slipping a little more every day. Third gear slips hard on initial engagement.
The output shaft is easily removed when the trans is disassembled. After all the guts are removed, just a snap ring holding it in. It has to come out anyway.
The ad doesn't say if was a 7.3 trans or not. That may be the only killer.
Hey guys, keep us posted on this build unless you're starting a build thread elsewhere. I've seen some of your tear down pictures Matt, need to see more!
Once the parts start rolling in I'll update with pics and statuses. Going to start a new thread once it's all said and done, I just need to remember to take lots of pictures during the process.
Matt and I got together yesterday and ordered a majority of the rebuild parts. The rest will be ordered via phone by Matt during the respective companies' business hours. Most of them should arrive later this week. We won't be able to work on the project next weekend due to conflicting schedules, but should be able to hit it the following one.
