should I restore it?

I have a 2000 F250 V10 Supercab with 80,000 miles on it. I have had it since new, runs great and has been very well maintained. Mostly use it now for towing purposes. My problem is rust..... The doors are rusting out on bottom, cab corners are getting holes in them, paint is bubbling on the tailgate and above the rear wheel wells. I have gotten some estimates to repair and repaint and they range 10 to 15K for the job. With new trucks around 50K and this truck has plenty of life left is this worth doing? Just wanted to know if anyone has done any restoration and if it is worth it.

If the body is that bad, try looking for another cab and bed. They can be had at salvage yards or pick and pulls. It may take awhile and be different colors, but that to me would be better than spending that much on a lot of rust.

Spending that much to restore that year vehicle is kinda crazy---simply not worth it as there are probably 100's of better condition bodies or parts thereof available out in the world.

I'd simply replace the doors and tailgate with good donor parts then find someone to repair or replace with patch panels the cab corners. Liberal and proper use of POR-15 before refinishing would greatly extend the life of your rust repair.

As has been noted either replace with a donor vehicles parts or just get replacement parts as you can. I would recommend that you look at craigslist and other such places for vehicles and be willing to drive to areas to get the parts. There are many here in the southwest rust free that are available. One place I know of has beds I have seen some other in wrecking yards. Your choice, but would stronly recommend replacements come from out of the midwest.

Here is a quick local list:

Another thing to look at, especially since yours is older but crazy low mileage, is buying another full truck. They're all over the place, but many have super high miles. Limit your search to an area with less known rust, down south, or I've had good luck in the Pacific Northwest. Find a great condition high mileage truck, swap out body panels. Then part out the left over parts and recoup half the cost.

Just a thought. I personally love the older trucks - simple enough to climb around and fix the little stuff, but electronic enough to not be ridiculously mechanical or from the stone age.

Just my $.02

buy some take off parts. Clist is full of beds, doors, tail gates, etc. replace the rusted parts, no sense in paying to bondo, weld panels, repaint, etc.
