Im pretty much on flat land, and over the last 3/4 tank with highway and city miles Im averaging 18.6. I have found that a strong head wind and cold temperatures kill the fuel mileage

Please - go back and read what I said!!!!

"Unfortunately that mpg is far from the cost of driving these 'beasts' with $110 thirteen quart oil changes*, 5 gallons of DEF** ($25 @ Walmart) every 5K miles, $150 fuel filters*** (all if you don't/can't do the maintenance yourselves)............."

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

- *I had to have the dealer do the last change as 0*F is no fun lying on my ice covered driveway. It included an oil filter and tire rotation ($110 incl. tax) along with the 14E03 reflash recall

- **DEF was $11.67 per 2.5 gallon container this past Saturday which with tax is dang close to $25 (it was ~$20 for the same 2.5 gallons at Advance/Auto Zone)

- *** Quoted price by a dealer was just over $200 for me and why I do that messy chore myself for ~$40 (and right now is overdue)

Yep, labor will add to the cost of maintenance for sure.

I give you some honest numbers:

In town: 13.5 - 13.9

Highway: Lots of variance right now as I only have 1100 mi on the truck. 14's - 16's

Loaded TBD: Got a series of trips coming up where I will be traveling for about a month with my camper (about 6000 lbs in the bed of the truck), will post later on this.

Just seconding what others have said, it has a lot to do with external variables and how your truck is setup. Engine / trans wise I'm stock with rolling hills all around (SC), most 1-3% grades.....with average driving I'm averaging 17-18. Driving style plays a good role, baby the throttle and I can see 20 mpg. But hey, what's the fun in that.

Back and forth to work and running errands locally at lunch - I'm at 15.5. It will go up slightly when I drive longer distances.
