Power door lock elec. problem
I have a 2002 F350 Lariat. Every couple of months I have to disconnect the batteries to re-set my door locks. It seems they stop working while everything else still works.
At first I thought it was the typical door ajar problem but the power lock button on the doors wouldn't work, and the key fob didn't unlock the doors either.
After disconnecting the batteries for another repair, the locks worked again.
I have used this "fix" a couple of times since. Always works but something is wrong.
Anyone have the same experience and a fix?
Thanks
mine were slugish and this fixed them and they worked like new ever since

Do you have any historic DTC's?
Does VSS stand for variable speed sensor? If so, I don't see the connection to my power door locks. As for "DTC's", I'm not sure what that is.
Aaronbob, my door locks just don't work at all when this happens. It's as if the power has been cut off from them and the switch. I can only operate them manually.

I just had the Vehicle Security Module replaced by my local Ford dealership. Cost was $632. Ouch.
However, I did learn something that might help others:
1. My 2002 F350 has both a GEM and VSM. I asked to have the VSM replaced and the service writer said no, you need the GEM replaced, which they had to order. Ok. Fortunately, the mechanic questioned that because he has replaced many more VSM's than GEM's.
