1954 ford wheels
I have some stock steel wheels (15x5.5) I am wanting to know what is the widest tires I can run on these 5.5 width rims. I was wanted to go with a 235 60 15 but ive been it maybe to wide. The option they gave me was a 215 70 15. I would like to have the widest tire these rims would accept and still be safe.

A 235/60R15" is designed for a 7.00" rim, and narrowest approved is a 6.50". A 215/70R15" is designed for a 6.50" rim and approved for a 5.50" rim on the extreme narrow end. That's about as good as you'll do. Stu

This may help with your tire searches. It doesn't go back to the true bias tire sizes, (6.50X15) but it will give you an idea what is minimum and maximum wheel width for metric sizes of today.
