I bought a used truck and then bought a used travel trailer. While moving the trailer today, I noticed I had no running lights on the trailer. When I hit the brakes, all the lights activated. When I used the right blinker, all the lights flashed like an emergency blinker. When I activated the left blinker, I got nothing.
I noticed some electrical tape on the 7pin connector from the trailer but haven't untaped it yet. Could it just be that the wires from the trailer are wired incorrectly or do I have a deeper problem?

I would start by checking the 7 pin connector, cleaning both ends. I periodically spray wd 40 into the pin side and plug/unplug 5 or 6 times to get better contact.
If that doesn't work, trace the ground on both the truck and trailer, starting with the trailer side first.
Since you see tape where it is not suppose to be, start there. It is easy enough to undo the tape and see just what is going on there. You could have a combination of incorrect connections, poor connections including the ground as already stated, and even a burned out bulb. just take it a step at a time and you should be fine. It is unlikely anything serious is going on. just takes a little time.
