My X came with a Western plow mount. It was originally a trade in to a dealer that went to auction, so I expect they pitched the plow (if they even got it) and instead of unplugging the remote controller inside they actually CUT the wire loom. Brilliant. All the underhood electronics were still intact, but it would still cost me about $2K to reconstitute the plow components.
What I read on plow sites is that the X is an excellent plow truck and does not need ballast, like pickups do. Personally, I would prefer a Jeep or something small and nimble for plowing anything other than a road or large parking space.
OK, I just saw this thread. Been busy plowing (with my Ex) and other stuff.
Yes, Russ is right about the plow mount and about the beefier springs.
I run a Western, but I got it for a steal. I am really considering a V-Plow from Western next season, or a C-Plow from Hiniker.
My set-up is a bit weird because I mounted an older plow to my mount. Therefore I have a conversion kit which eats up a couple of inches of clearance, and makes coupling and uncoupling a bit harder than usual.
I say don't rush into buying a plow. Figure out what you are really going to do with it and shop around. Snow Dog plows are relatively inexpensive, but you would not be plowing commercially with them for 8 seasons...
