Hey Guys, Im going to look at a truck in the next few days that looks great except for one thing, Theyre telling me its a 460 with a manual tranny. This is a 1977 f 250. Is this possible or do they just not know what theyre talking about? I cant find any info on whether the 460 ever came in a manual transmission in those years. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys!
I know 79 was the last year for 460's in anything less than f350's. I don't have a 100% yes about the manual but I don't see why they wouldn't. The 460 will bolt to the same transmission's the 400 will from the factories. Np435, t18 and others I think. Ask for the trucks vin number and look up exactly what the truck should be. Axles, engine, trans, everything.
Its not a factory engine but can easily be swapped in.
In 2WD it can be a factory engine, but it would have come with a C6. I believe that 1983 was the first year that you could get a 460 with a manual transmission. If it was a 4x4 then no, it would not have a 460. In 1977 a 4x4 would have a 300I6, 351M, or 400.

I am just confirming what others have said. A 460 was never factory installed in a 77-79 truck with a manual transmission. I am not very familiar with the trucks built after 1980, but I also believe that 1983 was the first year for the 460's with manual transmissions.
There are lots of pre-1980 trucks running around with 460's in front of manual transmissions but they are all as a result of engine swaps.
