just bought this beast for $5800 http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...&ct=clnk&gl=us
going to pick it up on the 13th. Have had a few super duty trucks but with new additions to the family I need something that can seat 6 comfortably. Was wondering if anybody knows if they changed anything on the frame for the 11+ trucks I have access to salvage trucks and would rather not have it cut welded to make it a 2011+ excursion. Currently looking at a 2014 platinum f350 with the 6.7 that was in a bad rear ender can get it at a good price just want to make sure i can swap everything over before i go this route. I would be switching the entire driveline and the interior except the seats

Wow, you aren't afraid, are you! I really envy your sense of adventure. Jump in a plane and go pick up a 200,000 mile vehicle that is 1200 miles from home. Gutsy!

Then when you get home, you aren't gonna just run it. No, you are gonna rip the front end and drive train out of it and swap it with a 2014 platinum!

My hats off to you. I hope your cape is ready to go!

If i can confirm ford didnt make any major changes to the frame then the plan is to get the truck and start stripping it selling whatever i dont need and run the 6.0 till it dies before tearing down the excursion however if there are major frame differences im just going to get an 05 - 07 superduty with the 6.0 and build the engine and pull the axles dash and front end and just swap those parts in. I really am liking the 2014 and can get the complete truck for less than $8000

The EX and SD truck's frames are different if that is what you are asking......? The rear of the EX's frame has a different contour than the pickups, front clips are essentially the same.
All of the other EX late model SD marriages I've seen have a frame cut/weld under the front row area and the body spot welds were cut and rewelded around the bottom of the A pillar and cab floor under the front seats.
Good luck with the project, take lots of pictures and share them here!

yeah i figured the rear of the frame was different so just dropping the whole body on a reg cab 8' bed frame wouldnt work but everything else should bolt up except for drilling some holes and some modification of the firewall and dash fitment. alot of the superdutys that come through have side impact or rollover damage and im pretty sure if you cut the front clip off the body it is illegal to change the vin plate and would end up with a salvage title on a previously never damaged excursion so im really shying away from cutting the body apart. Im just wondering if the front frame got changed drastically because they always chop the 2 frames and piece them together

The ones I've seen cut as I posted before will retain the SD truck's dash and VIN plate and the truck's original title, all you would be doing is some body modifications to a SD pickup after all.......

yeah problem im running into is the body on the x is perfect the sd that come through usually have salvage title so i dont want the pickup vin or the body parts would rather modify the firewall so the 6.7 fits and figure out the dash mounting. hopefully the front of the frame remain unchanged

99-05 SD and Excursions are exactly the same from the "B" pillar forward.

Welcome! That looks good, mine is currently the same color, arizona beige, and limited, just 2wd. Did they mention any issues it has with that low price?

The 08+ frames are different. They drop down something like 3" in the front. I'm in the process of gathering parts for a 11+ front end. Going to have to notch out the frame where the bumper and tow hooks mount to clear the grille, raise the new fenders in the front with spacers or build it up with metal. If you go this route the next obstacle you have is the rear quarter panels that won't match the front fenders. I was recently in an accident and they damaged the LR quarter so I'm getting that repaired and having them add 11+bedsides on. I only have the front and rear bumpers, head lights and grille right now.

I think some of the answers you want can be found here. This guy did 2 builds that I've seen that are well documented here and elsewhere.
