My truck had a loud grinding noise that I found out was the front right inner wheel bearing. I got new bearings/seals and hub/rotor assemblies. Went to install them today and when I pulled the hub/rotor off I realized the spindle was ruined. So I have a few questions. Where can I get a new spindle? Is it a salvage yard only part? How do you remove the spindle from the steering knuckle, or is it one piece? Thanks guys

Edit: forgot to mention the truck is a 1990 f150 2 wheel drive.

I believe that you can order a new spindle. I have checked the parts stores in the past for this.

You need a spindle puller. I bought one years ago and it amazed me how easy it made the job. If I had more time, I'd post a pic.

Maybe someone else can post one. You can get one on eBay also.

Thanks timbersteel. I'll look into ordering a new one. How is the spindle removed?

cheapest would be yard, use two hammers to knock ball joints and tie rods loose after you remove nuts on them. Gotta really whack them but doesn't take long. Thats for knuckle haven't replaced spindle only

Who can I order it from? Just called the local parts store and they can't get it. The local salvage yards prices are generally way to high but I can try.

So I thought the spindle and steering knuckle were separate parts on a 2wd but I found out they are the same part. Also my Chilton's book calls the whole thing a spindle. So to replace this I have to remove the ball joints. Any tips on this? I have never replaced ball joints before or removed a spindle but I am mechanically inclined

You can get one from a salvage yard or an axle so can probably get you one or know where to obtain one.

Thanks for that part # I googled it and found one on eBay. If I can't find one locally I will likely get it.

Ok guys good news got my truck back on the road. I found a good steering knuckle/spindle got it for $40. Cleaned it up and pressed in some new Moog ball joints. Got it all back together tonight and it drives great, no more noises. Thanks to all who helped
