I have a 1995 F-150 XL P/U with 5.0L motor and AODE Tranny. I lost most of first gear yesterday coming home from work, if I drop it into low, the truck seems to fight itself, by that i mean, it will come to a stop making noise and acting like my foot was on the brakes. If I shift up through the gears manually, It still has alot of power in second and third and overdrive. Any hints as to how much damage there might be, and also Any good rebuilders in the Phoenix, AZ area? I am on a tight schedule on when I can swap it, and was also curious about maybe a manual tranny swap??? I have heard a couple angles on the subject.
Yes there is an awesome company in the phoenix area, their called phoenix hard parts. They only do transmission rebuilding.
You give them a core and they give you a rebuilt transmission.
Or you can buy their transmission and get your core to them later.
They have the best prices I’ve ever seen, and have never heard anything bad abut them.
They also sell on ebay, they have auctions all the time, here is the link. The tranny is only $695 there.
I am having the same problem. I finally took it to a tranny shop and they said that my gears were coming apart and they found this out because they were stuck in my filter. Mine is not first gear, it is my overdrive starting first. The news was a new tranny or rebuild. I don't have the AODE, I just have the AOD. I went to Ebay and they had an AODE for a starting bid of $650. I checked out that company is Phoenix and they want $1300 for a rebuild, core and shipping. NOt bad, but I can have a shop here do the whole thing plus labor for $1200. Good luck with your.
